How to Really Make an Impression with Corporate Gifts
Corporate gifts can be a great way to strengthen and nurture valuable business relationships – relationships that are becoming increasingly more important as economic times become tougher. Corporate gifts can also be an effective way to increase and promote brand awareness. However, it is not just a simple matter of buying an expensive gift in the hopes it will have the right impact and prove to have advertising potential. To really impress the recipient and ensure your brand is exposed in the right way, considerable thought and planning needs to be carried out.
Corporate Gifts Need to Be Appropriate to the Recipient’s Culture
Who are your recipients going to be? Are they employees, suppliers, business associates and/or clients? You need to find out whether the companies your recipients are located at have any policies in place to prevent them from receiving corporate gifts. You also need to consider their culture and if there are any traditions you should be aware of. If you don’t do your research you might unwittingly present them with a gift that could be offensive in their culture – so be aware of this. Consider other cultural elements such as whether your recipients are outgoing and contemporary or perhaps on the more conservative side. An important consideration here is being careful of national holidays and seasonal celebrations. To avoid offending anyone it is common practice to use the term ‘happy holidays’ instead.
Understand the Personality of Your Recipient
Once you have a good understanding of any cultural implications and are assured that no company policies prevent you from sending corporate gifts then you need to consider the personality of the recipients. What are their likes and hobbies? Do they have any particular tastes or traits that will give you some insight into the kind of corporate gift that might be appropriate? Are your recipients sports fanatics? Or perhaps they have a particular taste for music? These personality traits will help you to make your gift more personal. If there is an important sports match coming up that you know your one recipient would love to attend for example, tickets to the match would be thoughtful and no doubt well received!
Keep the Gift Professional Yet Personalized
Although gifts should be personalized this also needs to be done with care so that your corporate gifts don’t cross the line and become too personal either. Your corporate gifts still need to exude professionalism as well as a personal touch. Also, be careful that your gift of choice does not offend by mistake such as offering wine to a reformed alcoholic or non-drinker or risking the company’s disapproval.
If you plan to include your logo on your corporate gift consider whether it is a gift that will be given from you personally or from the company and how it will affect the aesthetic appeal of the gift if it is. If you do choose to include your logo do this elegantly and tastefully so that it does not become the focal point of the gift; try imprinting your logo on ribbons on the inside of a basket for example or on the side of a pen or the underside of a compact mirror.
Keep these tips in the forefront of your mind when looking for the perfect corporate gifts with which to impress recipients. The more thought and consideration you put into your corporate gifts, the more the hard work will pay off and your recipients will be suitably impressed!
